Dragon Boat Victoria is excited to launch VIC25! The journey of our state team competing at the Auschamps State vs State Day in Penrith, Monday, 28th April 2025.  

This is a unique opportunity for paddlers across Victoria to showcase their skills and represent their state at the prestigious national event.

VIC25 has a common defined structure for each division and the key leaders will collaborate to spread best practice and develop our depth in high performance dragon boat racing. 

VIC25 will be managed by a support team working collaboratively with the division coaches to define a campaign structure and program. VIC25 will also include a new high performance development program drafted throughout the process. 

All roles will have a tenure of 1 year with the possibility of an extension for another year for the right candidates.  

Crew divisions 
  • Junior (10-18) 

  • Premiers 

  • Senior A (40+ years) 

  • Senior B (50+ years) 

  • Senior C (60+ years) 

  • Regional Team (single age division >100km from Melbourne) 

Competition will consist of Open, Women and Mixed classes within age divisions. 

VIC25 Role definitions 

Support Team Member: 

A support team member is primarily focused on the broader, overarching aspects of team preparation and coordination. Their role is more strategic and administrative, working behind the scenes to ensure smooth operations throughout the entire process. Key aspects of a Support Team Member's role: 

  1. Coordinates and supports coaches and team managers throughout the preparation process 

  1. Helps develop and implement overall strategies for team selection 

  1. Assists in creating and maintaining communication channels between DBV, coaches, and team managers 

  1. Provides administrative support for the entire program 

  1. Works on long-term planning and logistics 

  1. Helps in developing policies and guidelines for the state team 

Coach: 

The coaches for Dragon Boat Victoria's state team are in crucial leadership positions responsible for developing and preparing paddlers for the Auschamps State vs State competition. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering high performance. The key aspects of this role:  

  1. Collaborating effectively with other coaches, team managers, and the support team to ensure a cohesive approach to team development 

  1. Designing and implementing training programs tailored to the paddlers in conjunction with the support team and other coaches. 

  1. Providing expert technical instruction and tactical guidance to maximise team potential 

  1. Cultivating a positive, high-performance culture within the division that aligns with the overall goals of the state team.  

The successful candidates will receive robust support from the dedicated support team, allowing them to focus primarily on coaching and athlete development while administrative and logistical tasks are managed efficiently. 

Team Manager: 

A team manager will be more directly involved with the team, especially during the later stages of preparation and during the competition itself. The role is hands-on, focusing on the day-to-day needs of the team and paddlers. Key aspects of a Team Manager's role: 

  1. Works directly with coaches and paddlers, especially as the competition approaches 

  1. Manages team logistics during training camps and the competition 

  1. Serves as a point of contact for paddlers leading up to and during the competition 

  1. Assists with competition day requirements 

  1. Manages team schedules during the competition 

  1. Provides direct support to paddlers and coaches during Auschamps 

  1. Handles any last-minute issues or changes during the competition 

 

In recognition of the commitment, Dragon Boat Victoria are offering the following in appreciation to the appointed members - 

For first time Support Team members, Coaches and Team Managers you will receive: 

  • Choice of a Victorian State Team Racing Shirt or Polo Shirt and, 

  • Choice of a Victorian State Team Jacket or Hoodie 

Travel and accommodation expenses will be subject to the conditions of the DBV Travel and accommodation policy 

  • For example - Cost of transportation (petrol cost etc) and accommodation if you are only attending the Australian Championships in an approved role and not as a participant.  If you are attending Australian Championships as a participant and you need to stay on for approved role then you may claim the cost of one additional night’s accommodation.  

  • Any expenses to be claimed as per above must be applied for and approved before attending Australian Championships or no expenses may be claimed. 

Expressions of Interest for the support team, coaches and team managers will open on Friday 8th November and close on Monday 18th November. Successful candidates will be notified and announced by Thursday 21st November 2024. 

Expressions of Interest paddlers, sweeps and drummers will open on Friday 15th November and close on Monday 25th November 2024. First round offers are expected to be offered to applicants during the first week of December 2024.
