Sue Phung - CYSM
Sue Phung encapsulates the Dragon Spirit within CYSM and the wider dragon boating community in many ways. Since joining the club in early 2016, we have consistently witnessed her commitment to the team through her dedication to the committee, firstly as our vice-captain and secretary, then as captain and now as president. Leading by example, Sue has demonstrated how we could support each other amid the many challenges faced throughout the COVID pandemic. She strongly motivated our members to join daily online workouts which also doubled as catch-up sessions or even therapy for those feeling lonely and anxious during the lockdowns. Beyond her club roles, Sue has served on the DBV finance committee for two years and perhaps more noticeably to the wider dragon boating community, she has always willingly lent a helping hand to other clubs whenever they needed a sweep. In line with her drive to develop further as a leader, she has completed the Women Leaders in Sport workshop after being successful in obtaining a grant from the Australian Sports Commission last year. We are proud to have a member like Sue in our club and we feel that she is a worthy recipient of the Dragon Spirit award.
