The Port of Melbourne
The Harbour Master at the Port Authority requests that any dragon boats entering the Port of Melbourne and heading towards the Maribyrnong River (50m beyond the Bolte Bridge). If passing through the port, you must have a powered support vessel. For more information on rules and regulations within the Port, please refer to the Port Information Guide
Reporting Requirements
If VHF contact with Melbourne VTS is not available, a series of 2 SMS text messages must be sent to a dedicated VTS reporting number: +61 428 64 0602. The first text message, to be sent just before entering the port area at the Bolte/Shepherd
Bridge, should contain the following information:
- Name of the rowing/paddling club
- Number of rowing shells/boats
- Total number of persons in the group (i.e. those manning the escort/support vessel(s) plus all the rowers involved).
The second text message is to be sent at the completion of the session as the rowing group passes back under the Bolte/Shepherd Bridge and clears the port area. This message should contain the following information:
- Name of rowing/paddling club
- The word ‘out’.
