Juniors update for Victorian Championships

Published Sat 15 Mar 2025

Juniors (18 and Under) are an important and valued cohort within DBV.  In order to acknowledge this age group, DBV is reinstating its Juniors bylaw for Victorian Championships 2025 only:

  • Up to four juniors will be accepted in a 10s boat
  • Up to eight juniors will be accepted in a 20s boat
  • Juniors in this bylaw are classified as 18 and Under.

Victorian Championships placegetters involving juniors will be based on the following:

  1. To maintain the integrity of the competition by awarding the Standard Senior Results as per results for Sen A,B or C or where standard handicapping is applied.
  2. Allow a team to be sub-categorised as “Junior Combined” with up to 8 juniors added to a standard boat (up to 4 juniors added to a small boat} in addition to the other exemptions allowed in the bylaws. Without displacing the Standard Senior Results, if a Junior combined teams result would have earned them 1st 2ndor 3rd Trophy – award them a trophy in addition to the Standard Senior Trophy winners.

Over the next couple of months, DBV will lead a ‘juniors discussion’ with Club Presidents, particularly with those clubs who have experience regarding the inclusion of DBV Juniors.  This review will be broad and will encompass schools where possible.  We want to be certain that we have in place a Bylaw that ensures Juniors are valued, that they can enjoy competing in our regattas and that they are suitably rewarded.
